Sand House
Images via Dwell.
South Africa's Design Indaba’s 10x10 Low-Cost Housing Project uses sandbags as the base for affordable housing in Cape Town’s Mitchell’s Plain township. A material that is usually considered a nuisance (sand) is ingeniously placed in bags and blended with pine timber, galvanized metal, wire mesh, and plaster to create inventive abodes for first-time homeowners. Very cool.
