So I'm listening to Barbra Streisand's rendition of Here's To Life and, clearly, Streisand's new album was influenced by the work of the late, great Shirley Horn. Barbara's delivery of Horn's signature song, cited above, perfectly mimics Shirley's impeccable diction and restraint and Diana Krall, who produced Barbra's album, considers Shirley Horn to be of major inspiration and influence. Horn, a master pianist and chanteuse, had a most unique sound--she digs so deeply into a song--I get goose bumps when I listen to this album.
