Red lipstick is like the period at the end of a sentence. I like to "make up" and I usually go for a neutral, sometimes mod look. But I was browsing in Saks and the makeup artist at the Christian Dior counter suggested red. So, I tried it--it had a powdery, perfumed scent. I couldn’t stop starting at myself in the mirror. When I got home, my husband couldn’t stop staring at me either. For me, I don’t think its for everyday—I’m too much of a tomboy for the maintenance—but its that irreverent edge for when you want to dress up your Saturday uniform of jeans, t-shirt, and converse. But also, red lipstick is reminiscent of days when we took a more formalized approach to beauty. Red is Parisian, and romantic.
