Floria Sigismondi

I've admired the work of director/photographer Floria Sigismondi for over a decade and can't wait to see her latest directorial effort, The Runaways. Check out the film's winning review in the Times.

Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire

Last week I attended a screening of precious and I admit, without reservation, that it is one of the most moving films that I have ever seen. Director Lee Daniels fearlessly cuts and mixes genres and the narrative incorporates acute realism, fantasy, and humor. This is a nuanced story about resilience--about the promise of a new day when current challenges work to defeat you. It is about the therapeutic power of writing and how putting words on the page legitimizes one’s life experience and allows one to realize their true potential. It’s about poverty, abuse, family, welfare, health, education, friendship and perhaps most fundamentally, possibility.
